Strike!

So the company Rick works for has been gearing up for a strike by its craft employees. Since Rick is in management, he wasn't part of the strike, but he was going to be extremely busy training and working with the other managers to continue to do the job that all of those striking workers were leaving behind. It was going to mean 12 hour days for him, or more. The union labor contract expired on Saturday at midnight, and not long after that, Rick got a call from his boss, saying that the parties had agreed to extend the current contract. They didn't reach a new deal, but at least the workers agreed not to strike. The next half hour or so, Rick spent calling several of the other managers to let them know they didn't need to show up to work on Sunday (which they had planned to do to organize for the strike).

And because he didn't have to work, Rick got to go to the zoo with Jillian and me, and Jake didn't have to go to the baby-sitter's house - he got to go to the zoo with us as well! More on that, with pictures, later.

  1. I am glad that it has worked out at least temporarily. Good luck with continuing the contract.
