Lake Grapevine

Last weekend, we loaded up the kiddos and headed out to Lake Grapevine in Grapevine, Texas. Its such a pretty area, with a rocky shore and cliffs on one side and a regular beach on the other. The weather was a little chilly, and we were hoping to get some nice pictures of the kids.
We stopped on the way to get some lunch to take with us so we could have a picnic at the lake. Unfortunately, both kids fell asleep in the car on the way, so when we got there, Rick and I ate lunch while they slept, and as they woke up, we let them eat. Jake woke first, and after he ate, he played in the grass while he waited for Jillian to wake up.

Once Jillian was up and had eaten, we went down to the edge of the water. The "beach" is made up of little rocks, which the kids had a blast throwing in the water.

Jake walked right in the water! It was funny, because he was just walking like normal, and as soon as he realized he was in the water, he stopped short and looked at us like, "uh oh!" He liked it though - he wasn't thrilled when Rick pulled him out!
More rock throwing...And once he got a taste of being in the water, we couldn't keep him out of it! Silly boy!

This was Jillian's reaction to Rick throwing a huge rock in the lake, making a huge splash! Jillian thought it was great!
She spotted this big rock and asked Rick to throw it in. When Rick told her he couldn't lift it, she told him that she'd do it herself!
Jake preferred to throw rocks in by the handful!

Searching for rocks to throw in. She was looking for flat ones for skipping.
Taking a little water break.
Eventually, Jake started examining the rocks before he threw them in. He'd pick up a handful, sift them through his fingers, and then throw 'em in.

This rock throwing kept them entertained for probably thirty minutes!
Jake also tried to eat the rocks! He didn't like them very much...
By the end of the day, Jake was such a mess. His pants and shoes were soaked, he had rock dirt on his cheeks and all over his hands, and some mud even got behind his ear!
