Bike Rodeo

After the Family Fun Day, we went to the Bicycle Rodeo, sponsored by the Lake Placid Police Department. I wasn't sure how the kids would do - I didn't even know if they would have tricycles for them to ride, and I didn't know if they'd follow instructions. But they were giving out free helmets, so we decided to check it out. I figured the helmets would be dorky, with the police department logo on them or something, but they were super cute. The kids were able to pick from a ton of different helmets. Jake picked this red one with a puppy on the side. He loved this helmet! He wore it long after he got off the bike, and even wore it in the car on the way to lunch!
Jillian got a blue helmet with purple butterflies. She wasn't quite as excited about her helmet as Jake was. We already had a helmet at home, but only one, and it was getting too small for Jillian, so we were happy to get two new ones.

They didn't have any tricycles, but they had this small bike with training wheels. They only had one though, so Jake went first while Jillian watched. It took him only a few minutes before he totally had the hang of the big boy bike! Here he's getting his instructions from the policeman.
And he's off...
While Jake was riding, one of the police officers was putting another bike back in the row, causing them all to fall over! I thought it was so funny - but I don't think the officer did!
Jake stopped here to get his next set of instructions. By this time, he was a pro, and loving every minute of it! By the time his turn was up, we had to practically tear him away from the bike!

Now, Jillian's turn. She's getting her instructions for the first section of the course.
Learning how to use hand signals.
Jillian got really good at riding the big girl bike too. She did a great job on all the obstacles in the course.
We had been planning on getting Jake a tricycle for Christmas, but after seeing them both ride these bigger bikes, we decided to skip the trike and get them both big bikes. They're going to be so excited!
