Last night we headed over to the boardwalk in Daytona Beach. We knew the waves would be huge because of the hurricane and we thought it would be fun to spend the evening at the beach and go to dinner. We (obviously) weren't thinking clearly, because we didn't bring swimsuits for the kids - the plan was to just get our feet and legs wet. We should have known better! As soon as we got in the sand, Jillian plopped down to start on her sand castle.
One of my favorite pictures of Jillian.
Another of my favorite pictures...I think this one just shows how carefree she was, and how much fun she was having. I love it!
I kept trying to get them to sit next to each other, or hold hands, or put their arm around each other, but no luck. This was the best I could do.

Despite how it looks, Jake didn't just push her down!
And I LOVE how blue the water is in this picture, and how cute Jake is!
It may look like they were out to sea in this picture, but they weren't that far away from me. And the water was pretty shallow - they were lying on their bellies.

Waiting for the next wave to crash over them. They had so much fun doing this. They'd sit on all fours, let the wave crash over them, and then giggle as the water and sand rushed back past them, burying their hands in the sand.
Or they'd lie on their bellies and let the water get them head first! (Look at that butt! At least she was wearing Little Mermaid panties!)
The water really was beautiful! There were so many waves, and some of them were huge! There were several people swimming out in them, and a few people surfing. What a pretty view!
Watching the water, waiting for a wave.
And there it is!
Chasing after a bird! They ran FAR! I had to run to catch up with them. And can you believe they didn't even catch the bird?!
Ta-da! See all the sand in her pockets! It was everywhere!

Making a sandcastle. Jake was very involved in this project.
And just like that, gone!
Just as we were getting ready to leave, some of the waves started foaming up on the beach. Jillian was impressed. She immediately ran over to investigate.
And share with Jake.
Time to go to dinner!
So, when we finished playing in the water, we had somewhat of a problem. Rick had scoped out an outdoor shower at the pool at the Hilton hotel, so we snuck in to use it. Problem - no towels. We were hoping to find some near the pool, but there weren't any. So we had the kids rinse off, and then they just sat by the pool in their skivvies to try to air off. By the time we had rinsed all the sand out of their clothes, they were dry enough to put in their spare clothes. Then off to dinner we went!
