Tiny Ballerina!

Jillian had her dance recital this weekend, and it was officially the cutest thing ever! On Friday evening, we got her dressed in her costume and a bit of make-up and went to the dress rehearsal. It was her first time seeing the "big stage" and realizing what exactly a dance recital entailed. She was not nervous at all, and was so excited to get on stage and do her dance. These are all the girls in Jillian's class. I believe that most are planning to return to the studio for classes next year, but I don't know if they'll all be in the same class again.

While the girls waited for their turn to go on stage, they watched some of the other dancers perform their routines. Jillian was watching this girl perform a lyrical routine, and she told me she wanted to dance with her. So Jillian stood up in the aisle and mimicked the girl on stage. It was so cute!

Jake got a little stir-crazy waiting during the dress rehearsal. So he entertained himself...

Finally! Time for these little ballerinas to perform their routine on the big stage! None of them seemed nervous at all! They did a great job! When Jillian first walked out on stage, she started waving to us. She stopped as soon as the music came on, and got down to business, but she wanted to make sure she told us hi. She asked me later if I saw her waving, and I told her I did. She said, "well, I didn't see you waving back at me!" I told her we were, but she couldn't see us because of the spotlights on the stage. (Surprisingly, she was the only kid in the whole show who came out waving...)

Gallopping around the stage!
Jillian was in charge of leading the line of galloppers around the stage at three points during the dance. It was a big responsibility to be the line-leader, and she took it very seriously. She knew the numbers she was supposed to step on, and she made sure not to miss them. She thought she was very special to have such an important job. And she did a great job!

The girls loved dancing in the finale! They did a very very short hip-hop type routine, and the girls all had so much fun! Jillian came out on stage and immediately started jumping and clapping and dancing, and she never stopped. She was full of energy and excitement!

After the show, we gave Jillian a bunch of flowers. She was very worried that we didn't buy her any flowers, but of course, we surprised her. She loved all the attention! She even got a ribbon from the dance studio, which she wore with pride.

Hugs and flowers from Daddy!

Jillian was so surprised and excited to be getting flowers from Jake!

It just doesn't get any cuter than this! Love them! Jake was so proud of Jillian! He loved watching her dance!

Talking about the show...

All of Jillian's grandparents came to watch her dance. Cousin Morgan even came!

When we got home, I divided up Jillian's flowers and made two pretty arrangements. We kept one in the kitchen.

And we put the other in her bedroom. Jillian loved having these pretty flowers in her room!Flowers for my princess!

Jillian is already thinking about next year, trying to decide if she wants to stick with ballet and tap, or if she'd like to try gymnastics. Well, actually, she already knows what she wants to do - she wants to do both (because, "I'd miss dancing, mama, if I only did gymnastics!"). But we're checking into it, and we may decide to choose just one. Either way, I see a lot of dancing in this girl's future!
